Community School for the Performing Arts (CSPA) is a partnership between Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (MTD) and Manhattan Arts Center, to create music lesson offerings, recruit and identify highly qualified instructors, and advocate for arts education in the Manhattan area.
Scholarships are available for school-age students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunches. These are provided, in part, by the Greater Manhattan Community foundation, the YES! Fund, and generous Friends of MAC.
CSPA is supported through the Lincoln and Dorothy Deihl Endowed Fund Grant Committee and the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation.
2023-2024 CSPA Music Lessons
If you are a returning student, please first be in touch with your instructor, then contact MAC to enroll for lessons.
If you are a new student interested in private lessons, please first complete the Private Lesson Inquiry Form or call us. We don't want to register you for lessons unless there is an instructor available.
2023-2024 Lessons:
Enrollment & Registration is NOW OPEN
General Information
Lesson enrollment begins in August for the coming year, though students are welcome to enroll throughout the year, depending on availability. Summer lessons are optional and are based on availability.
Most lessons take place in the KSU McCain Music Building on the KSU campus. Once you are enrolled, you'll be in touch directly with the instructor about places and times.
Instructors
We are unable to guarantee that we have an instructor available for you or for your particular instrument. But always call us, we have lots of contacts in the region and hope to be able to help you.
KSU students who teach through CSPA have been approved by the KSU faculty to teach privately and are granted permission to teach in the McCain Music Building.
Lesson Fees
Rates for lessons vary on the experience level of the instructor: Faculty, Community/Grad Student, Undergraduate. Fees do not include the instrument.
Generous scholarships are available for school-age students whose household income qualifies for the federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program. Please contact us for details.
Please see our CSPA Policies for more details about payments and scholarships.
Affordable Violin Rental
Especially targeted to elementary students but available to others, we have a small inventory of violins that are available for rent for $35 per semester (fall, spring, summer).
