Portraiture is as old as art. Portraits have always been used to depict the importance, wealth, beauty, power, and personality of the sitter. A good portrait however moves beyond depicting a likeness of a person to a commentary on his/her humanity. The paintings and photographs in this exhibition are portraits of primarily local individuals who portray features of our cultural environment and are part of the fabric of our community. Dick Beeman, Clive Fullagar, and Luke Townsend are all local artists living in Manhattan. None of them have had a formal training in art.
All MAC gallery exhibits are free and open to the public.
Meet the artists at the opening reception on Friday August 30, 5-7pm.
Gallery talk with the artists Wednesday, October 2, 6pm
